GREAT BRITAIN 1966 (FDC) 4D BRITISH BIRDS ORDINARY SINGLES MISSING RED
4d British Birds ordinary singles, missing red and with down shift of emerald-green, separated onto four plain covers cancelled SHEFFIELD on the first day of issue. Just two stamps are affected by missing red: the gull (beak and leg) and the robin (breast). In both cases the yellow underlay colour is visible instead of red. All stamps apart from the blackbird exhibit a down shift of emerald green. Covers and stamps are grubby in places, but these are the only recorded examples of this major error on first day cover.
