William Keble Martin (1877–1969) was born at Radley and read botany at Oxford before ordination, serving as a parish priest in the north and later in Devon. Over 60 years he painted some 1,400 British wild flowers, published in 1965 – when he was 88 – as The Concise British Flora in Colour, an unexpected bestseller. Its plates furnished his Great Britain output, the four 4d values of 1967 Wild Flowers.
