Gabriel Ellison (1930–2017) was head of Graphic Arts at the Ministry of Information when Northern Rhodesia gained independence and subsequently designed most of the renamed country's stamps from 1964 to the late 1980s. She also designed the country arms and national flag. She is credited with around 500 diverse stamp designs for Zambia, including nine definitive series and numerous first day covers.
