4d Battle of Hastings Anniversary ordinary traffic light/cylinder 1A block x 24, comprising four strips of six stamps, with olive-green missing. Ex part sheet purchased at Backwell post office, Bristol, at the time of issue. An extraordinary proving piece. The error previously only recorded from a cylinder 2A printing. Crease affecting two stamps and folded through central perfs otherwise generally fresh and fine. Mint never hinged. SG705ab; SC475avar

 

Note: the stamps are affected as follows from left to right in the strip: (1) the axe-weilding soldier's cuffs, the upright horse's saddle and reigns, the mounted soldier's shield and sword, and the fallen soldier's outfit (2) the shading of the fallen horse (3) the leggings of the rightmost fallen soldier, the outfit of the second rightmost fallen soldier, and the skin colour of the topmost fallen soldier (4) the axe-weilding soldier's outfit, the horse's saddle and the topmost fallen soldier's outfit (5) the leggings of all but the central soldier on the ground, the saddle, the central character's helmet, and the shield on the right (6) the shield, soldier's outfit and axe handle, stirrups, fallen soldier's outfit, background soldier's outfit, and the shield, soldier's outfit, and sword-carrying character's outfit
