Percy Metcalfe

Percy Metcalfe (1895–1970) was born in Wakefield and trained at Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art as a sculptor and medallist. He designed the 'barnyard' coinage of the Irish Free State in 1928, the crowned effigy of George VI for overseas coins and the Great Seal of the Realm. For Great Britain he designed 1948 Olympic Games (2½d) and 1949 UPU Anniversary (3d), globe and post horn.
