Gabriel Shamir (1909–1992) was born in Latvia, trained in Berlin and worked in advertising there and in Stockholm before joining his brother Maxim in Palestine in 1935. Their Shamir Brothers studio in Tel Aviv designed Israel's state emblem, medals, banknotes and first stamps, then issues for newer nations from Ghana to Grenada. His joint work with Maxim includes the Falkland Islands Silver Jubilee issue of 1977.
