Barry Driscoll (1926–2006) was born in Camberwell, the son of a printer, and after wartime service studied at St Martin's School of Art and the RCA. He began as a book illustrator, including a new edition of Tarka the Otter, and later worked as a muralist and sculptor with a wildlife column in the Sunday Express. His mural of British cattle breeds for a Moscow trade fair inspired his one Great Britain issue, 1984 British Cattle.
