BASUTOLAND 1926 (POSTMARK) MOHALES HOEK
South Africa 1d King George V definitive, rose-red shade, springbok head watermark, on-piece with distinct MOHALES HOEK, BASUTOLAND type 4 circular cancel dated 11 DEC 26. Very early usage (the type 4 cancel listed as being introduced in 1928 by A H Scott in the Cancellations & Postal Markings of Basutoland/Lesotho Post Offices). Lovely example. Fine used.
Note: stamps of Cape of Good Hope were used in Basutoland from 1876 followed, from 1910, by stamps of South Africa. It wasn't until December 1933 that Basutoland issued its own stamps
