Herman Herbert Schwartz stamp designer
Herman Herbert Schwartz (1885–1962) came from a family of successful Canadian merchants, but shunned the business to pursue a career in design. He started as an apprentice at the American Bank Note Company of Ottawa in 1909, eventually designing over 80 Canadian stamps. The first, Fathers of Confederation, was issued in 1927 while his last for the Prime Ministers series appeared in 1955.
